Arkansas is working to design and fund a coordinated statewide model for alternative learning environments to strengthen coordinated supports and resources to better meet student needs.
The Opportunity
Arkansas requires a regional infrastructure to better support public school districts in meeting the needs of students with complex, high-acuity challenges. To ensure students remain safe, supported, and successful, the state is working toward a cohesive statewide model that integrates coordinated multiagency services. This approach aims to create a more efficient and sustainable system of support across schools and communities.
The Support
The Southwest Comprehensive Center is supporting Arkansas by researching how to operationalize and sustainably fund day placement and integrated, multiservice support models, including developing comparative cost scenarios that outline per-student costs across different program approaches. We are also designing interview protocols and convening materials and will facilitate a cross-agency convening of Arkansas partners serving youth and families to align interest holders around a practical, shared plan for program development and funding.
Desired Outcomes
The pilot is designed to produce a replicable, evidence-based statewide model and formal legislative recommendations for the upcoming legislative session. Ultimately, this work will provide Arkansas with a sustainable roadmap for stabilizing at-risk students and families while strengthening the capacity of districts to manage complex needs.
