Texas is strengthening statewide data systems and practices to support more timely, reliable, and actionable decision making across agency operations.
The Opportunity
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) depends on timely, reliable data to support its workforce. Although foundational systems are in place, human resources (HR) faces structural opportunities—including documenting data logic, standardizing processes, and removing external data constraints—to improve analysis and expedite decisionmaking. These changes will strengthen TEA’s ability to respond quickly to leadership needs, sustain institutional knowledge, and use data consistently for workforce planning.
The Support
The Southwest Comprehensive Center is partnering with TEA to strengthen HR data usability, documentation, and sustainability. This work focuses on clarifying what existing data can and cannot support, documenting systems and workflows, and reducing reliance on manual processes. Through current state analyses, reference guides, user testing, and targeted visualizations, the Southwest Comprehensive Center helps TEA translate complex data environments into clearer, more actionable information for leaders.
Desired Outcomes
As a result of this work, TEA will have clearer, better documented, and more sustainable HR data infrastructure. In the near term, leaders will gain improved access to timely, interpretable data and visualizations to inform strategic decisions. Over time, TEA will reduce technical risk, preserve institutional knowledge, and strengthen its capacity to use data efficiently as agency needs evolve.
